FIRST EARTH | 2030 TO PARTNER WITH TAZEWELL COUNTY -March 9, 2022

Partnership Will Identify and Pursue Grant Funding and Resources for Flood Preparedness, Outdoor Recreation, Community Services, and Economic Development

February 24, 2022

Richmond, VA — First Earth|2030, an eco-asset management firm based in Richmond, announced today a new partnership to bring innovative resources to Tazewell County.

Tazewell County, like many localities in coal country and Southwest Virginia, seeks to leverage its natural resources to improve its economy, public safety, and community quality of life. Building on the recent example of its neighbors in Buchanan County, starting with the urgent issue of flood preparedness, Tazewell’s leadership sought a partner to help bring in consultants, experts, and funding. First Earth|2030 (FE) is proud to have secured the role.

For the first order of business, FE will help the County apply to the third round of Virginia’s Community Flood Preparedness Fund. If awarded, the grant-funded plans will support future applications to the same funding stream or other grant sources for projects that ameliorate flooding risks in Tazewell County. Reduced risks will improve quality of life and increase the sound management of natural resources.

Next, FE’s team will aid the County in scoping and applying for additional grant funding for trails and outdoor recreation, community services, and economic development.

“We are pleased that Tazewell County has selected First Earth to begin a partnership. Our team is eagerly exploring solutions and funding streams for coal country to help answer the climate and economic needs of the moment,” said Tee Clarkson, Principal of First Earth|2030.
